Dementia Rossendale
Dementia Friendly Rossendale (DFR) is a constituted community group of volunteers who work within the Rossendale boundaries to support people living with dementia, their carers, families and friends. We are not medical professionals but have personal experience of people living with dementia and do what we can to support others and can signpost to professional organisations if needed.
Dementia is not a specific disease but is rather a general term for the impaired ability to remember, think, or make decisions that interferes with doing everyday activities. There are over 100 different types of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 60-70% of cases. Though dementia mostly affects older adults, it is not a part of normal aging.
You will find on here details of any activities and workshops we are involved in, our contact details are in the menu above. If you would like to be involved with DFR, can help us to run an event or have ideas of what you would like us to provide in the community please get in touch.

DFR and CAST
Our work has many guises; we support reminiscence groups and cafes in the valley by providing resources such as tailored activities, jigsaws, games etc. We provide or contribute to celebrations e.g. Jubilee, Lancashire Day, arrange social events and run flower arrangement workshops a couple of times a year.
During covid we sent out afternoon teas and an ice cream van to our local care homes and those living in the community with dementia. We also advise local shops and businesses on how they can make their premises dementia friendly and raise awareness of the everyday issues having dementia brings.
We organise for a ukulele group to go into local care homes twice a month to entertain the residents.
We rely solely on donations from the public and local businesses to carry out our work.
We have taken the decision to work alongside CAST so we can share resources and people, work together and widen our reach in the community.

In a Charity every penny counts, and we cannot thank our sponsors and donors enough for the funds they entrust us with. Please give what you can afford.
Our trustees work tirelessly to balance the books and bring rewarding projects to Bacup and the Rossendale Valley, Lancashire.
Without the dedication of our staff and volunteers many of our projects would not get off the ground. All volunteers are welcome.
