We learned about the rag n bone man, Hargreaves, his place was jokingly called ‘Hargreaves Silk Shop’.
The first omnibus in Bacup was 1933. A visitor on the day recalled it was 6d per adult and 3d per child to ride the circular.
We were told about Poker Row, so called because when the Landlord called at the first house the resident would bang the fire back to warn his neighbour, who in turn would bang his fire back to warn his neighbour and so on.
We were brought old plates from local churches, printed cups, photographs and even an old packet of cigarettes.
Thank you to everyone who came to see us and share their memories, it was lovely to meet you.
Our next open day is Saturday 8th August, 10:30am – 4:30pm. AB&D Centre, Burnley Road, Bacup. Please come and join us.
