2nd Drop In Memories Day

Our second drop in day was amazing. We met a family who owned the newsagents on Hawthorn Road from 1967 to 1972, they had great stories to share and met people on the day who shopped with them as youngsters. Among the many excellent photographs and newspaper cuttings they brought was the original estate agent details of the shop when it was first up for sale.

We have scanned lots of photographs of Bacup, old and new as well as war photographs, newspaper articles and made note of many stories from Bacups’ past including “Torchy” the Bacup Policeman who originated from Manchester and “Robert the Devil” from Bacup market, he collected boxes and scrap for his fire, everyone thought he was a tramp but when he died it turned out he was a very wealthy man.

Do you remember the snow drifts in 1947?

Thank you to everyone who came, we hope you enjoyed your day as much as we did.
